Celebrating Christmas & 45 Years of Mooney's.

Letter from Paraic Mooney.

Dear customers, friends and business partners,
thanks so much for your continued support over the years for Mooney’s and Hyundai.

As I write the date today, I am reminded that this week is a significant one for Mooney’s, believe it or not, we arrived here in mid-December 1973, 45 years ago this week!
Ireland had lots of other big events in 1973;

1 - Ireland joined the European Community along with Britain and Denmark, this was to be the beginning of a new era for the country.
2 - Significantly marking the end of another era, the death and funeral took place of the former Archbishop of Dublin (Roman Catholic), Dr. John Charles McQuaid
3 - We had a significant oil crisis which changed the world in so many ways. This came about because, in October 1973, the members of Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries or the OAPEC (consisting of the Arab Members of OPEC) proclaimed an oil embargo & quot, in response to the U.S. The decision to re-supply the Israeli military & quot, during the Yom Kippur war; it lasted until March 1974.

These three events would have significant effects on Ireland in the years to come. The EU being hugely positive for the country, the changing church giving rise to a more liberal and better Ireland and rising oil prices testing
every economy in the world and forcing us to re-evaluate how we live.
This was the turbulent background to Mooney's arrival in Long Mile road, my dad Ernie and I, therefore found ourselves the owners of a petrol station with no petrol to sell, as supplies were so limited! It was not unusual to see queues of cars following oil tanker trucks to where they would deliver their fuel.
Being optimistic and stubborn certainly helped, we never even considered it a problem or let it deter us in any way and just got on with our lives, finally getting our first franchise agreement for Datsun cars in August of 1974.

Some pics below here of our progress in Long mile road since then.

2. The new showroom and workshop completed in late 1981

None of this and all of the jobs created would have happened without you the customer, we cannot thank you enough!!
Mooney’s has seen a lot of water under the bridge since 1973 and weathered many crises, and now we find ourselves in the latest crisis called Brexit, as it affects our economy and businesses, in a myriad of different ways. Notwithstanding this, we look forward, with your continued support, to 2019 positively as always.

At Mooney’s, we have lots of new and exciting Hyundai products for you to choose from in 2019. We also have a huge selection of used stock and our aftersales teams are ready and able to keep your Hyundai or any car on the road, all you need to do is call.
In a world of lots of exces, we have restricted ourselves in giving out thank you gifts and gestures at this time, preferring instead to help, on your behalf, local and deserving charities who are under immense pressure at this time.

Finally, we wish you and your families a happy, safe and peaceful Christmas, and thanks again for your support.

Nollaig Shona Daoibh go leir!

Paraic, and all the team at Mooney’s Long Mile and Deans Grange"
